There have been a lot of changes in the landscape since we started WellMama in 2012. We are learning and growing all the time, and we have expanded our horizons to include all kinds of families in our mission of health and wellness in conception, pregnancy, birth, and early childhood.
This year, we will turn our focus to those who serve our community. We will be partnering with the new resource guide, BirthWorkNW, which is a free resource that hopes to provide a way for families to find everything in one easy-to-search platform. To that end, we will be merging with BirthWork NW and growing alongside the platform as a multi-faceted annual conference for providers and parents alike. We want to bring the knowledge back into the communities- our heart's work hasn't changed, even if the wrapping has! If you are a provider in the Pacific Northwest, we would love to have you apply to be a speaker! Watch for updates to this site as we move along in conference planning for 2019! With love, Bryna Sampey, IBCLC, Director WellMama Staff & Volunteer Community BirthWork NW Staff & Volunteer Community

Madi says: "Imperfect Produce is a social enterprise on a mission to reduce food waste and create a more sustainable food system. We purchase produce from farmers that cannot be sold at conventional grocery stores due to sizing, shape, coloration, and overall aesthetic 'imperfections.' Customers are then able to fully customize a box of produce that is delivered to their front door at 30-50% cheaper than grocery store prices. At the event we will share some of our 'uglies' with attendees, explain our mission and work, and offer $10 off of a first box for those who are interested in trying out the service." We are so excited to have this new service in our community- and to have a more affordable option for delivered produce for our families- especially when getting to the grocery store is tough! Look for their booth atWellMama on Saturday! See you there! Bridge Chiropractic is the leader in natural health and wellness. Bond & Love is dedicated to developing innovative products that help breastfeeding moms nourish strong families.
We are Annette Aranda and Kristin Dann, and Bond & Love is our labor of love. We met in the fall of 2004 as co-workers in San Diego, CA. We hit it off right away… and so began our story of friendship and collaboration. In 2007, Annette relocated to Portland, OR. Kristin moved there a few years later. During all this, we each got married and started our own families. In 2011, Kristin became a Certified Lactation Educator through Gini Baker’s CLE program. We both found common challenges in breastfeeding. It was these challenges and our shared desire to help other breastfeeding moms that eventually led us to form Bond & Love and develop our first product, My Droplette. We started looking at current gaps in the products and services available to breastfeeding families and imagining innovative ways to close those gaps. This process led us to focus on small quantity milk collection for our first product. While we were still working on prototypes for My Droplette, Kristin’s sister had a late pre-term birth. Kristin spent the night helping her sister pump and collect colostrum and was reaffirmed of the need for this product. Since then, we’ve completed prototyping and testing My Droplette and we’re confident that it’s a unique product that solves a real need. Contact Us:[email protected] WHAT IS MY DROPLETTE? My Droplette is a soft, form-fitting device placed between the nipple and the breast pump that captures 100% of your milk. With My Droplette, there’s absolutely no milk lost in hoses, fittings or other pump parts. My Droplette collects up to 8 ml of milk at a time, making it ideal for new moms, antenatal pumping and women experiencing low milk supply. Save every last drop for your baby’s best nourishment with My Droplette from Bond & Love. WHO’S IT FOR?My Droplette is designed specifically for women expressing small quantities of milk or colostrum. Most breast pumps lose around 5 ml per session inside hoses, fittings and other hard to reach places. This is especially frustrating when you’re dealing with small quantities. My Droplette creates a closed system that captures 100% of the milk you express. With My Droplette, new moms, women pumping before giving birth, and women with low milk supply can rest assured that they’re collecting every precious drop. Krissie Lenahan is a local wife and mother. She is a part-time high school health teacher and Career Specialist, a National Board Certified teacher, and the North County Chapter Leader for the MOB (a networking group for women who own their own businesses). She’s also the owner of Live Pure Mama as an Ambassador for Pure Haven. In the Fall of 2015, Krissie attended a teaching conference where she learned about toxins in our daily personal care products. She was shocked that Europe bans 1371 harmful chemicals from these products and the US only bans 11 and that no agency is testing or regulating personal care products in our country! She knew I had to make some major changes and she did – personally and professionally. Now, she teaches public and private workshops for families looking to be empowered with the skills to actually read product labels and make safer choices for themselves, their children and pets. She is passionate about no longer smearing her sweet son with toxic lotion, body wash or products with fragrance. Through Pure Haven, she offers 100% pure body and home cleaning products that are completely natural, non-GMO, cruelty free, gluten free, Made in America and based with organic essential oils and absolutely no synthetic dyes or fragrances. She’s moving toward all products in her home being ones that do NOT cause disease, reproductive issues, and allergies while helping other families do the same. We are so excited about 2018! WellMama is happening in TWO PLACES this year! In PDX on March 24th, at Tabor Space with our amazing friends and partners, Bond & Love.
We are hosting the original WellMama in Vancouver in May, as usual. 2018's date is May 5th, from 10a-2p. We are changing up the venue this year to Wattle Tree Place! It's a new little community center that has the heart of Vancouver wrapped nicely in a cozy chair with a latte! They are hard at work serving the community daily- offering groups, classes, meeting space, a sensory tent, and more. It's just a natural fit to partner with a grassroots community center, as we are a grassroots movement. We started WellMama to overcome that feeling that many new families encounter-- that finding resources and referrals and community is a bit like discovering a "secret society" and you kind of have to know someone who knows someone to get in! We mean to put an end to that feeling, and welcome families with open arms while connecting them to resources that are useful for where they are at right now. Vendor registration is open for the WellMama PDX event, and you can get more info here. Vendor registration for WellMama VanWA begins on March 1, 2018. Stay tuned! WellMama 2017 was a whole lot of fun! We had a great time with everyone, sharing knowledge, networking, hearing stories of challenge and success, learning at the panels and talks, and winning cool stuff in the raffle!
We had The Mob NW, Family Chiropractic at Salmon Creek, and Doula My Soul, llc as Branded Vendors, and a whole host of amazing Event Vendors. Check out the photos from Jessie Clark of Jessie Photo Doula ! See your business here? Want to get a copy of that photo for marketing? Get in touch with her! Parents, contact her to get photos of your sweet munchkins, too! <3 Jessie offered us a very generous discount on services, and we are so grateful. Show your appreciation, too by giving her some love over on her FB! Thanks to generous donations, table sales & raffle ticket sales, we were able to raise $300 for Happy Homecoming, Baby! Thank you all so much for your part in a wonderful event! See you next year! |
